We need everyone to conserve as much energy as possible today starting at 3:00 pm through 10:00 pm tonight as several neighborhoods in Cathedral City are on the list for potential rolling blackouts that could last at least an hour or more. They include the following Southern California Edison electrical areas:
A001Â Â Â Â Â (Vista Chino and Landau Blvd)
A002Â Â Â Â Â (Palm Drive north of I-10)
A004Â Â Â Â Â (Gerald Ford, Date Palm Drive, Lower Cove)
A023Â Â Â Â Â (East Palm Canyon from Date Palm Drive to PS City Limits including City Hall)
A024Â Â Â Â Â (Gerald Ford, Rio del Sol Neighborhood, Plumley Drive)

Due to the excessive heat wave in the Coachella Valley and a heat wave throughout the state, California Independent System Operator (CAISO) may need to start rolling blackouts as demand goes beyond output capacity later today.
We need you to do exactly what you did yesterday, use electricity earlier in the day and reduce your usage starting at 3:00 pm this afternoon and through evening until 10:00 pm.
The following are ways you can help to conserve energy and prevent the outages:
Between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., the ISO is urging consumers to:
- Set air conditioning thermostats to 78 degrees, if health permits.
- Defer use of major appliances.
- Turn off unnecessary lights.
- Unplug unused electrical devices.
- Close blinds and drapes.
- Use fans when possible.
- Limit time the refrigerator door is open.
Consumers can also take steps to prepare for the Flex Alert by doing the following before 3 p.m.:
- “Pre-cool” their homes, or lower air conditioning thermostats to 72 degrees.
- Charge electric vehicles.
- Charge mobile devices and laptops.
- Run dishwashers, washing machines and other major appliances.
- Set pool pumps to run in the early morning or late at night.
