CCTV Host Conrad Angel Corral sits down with Artistic Director Ron Celona of the new CVRep Playhouse in Downtown Cathedral City to discuss the amazing welcome they have received from the community and to tour the complete interior remodel of this former IMAX Theater. The CVRep Playhouse serves as one of four anchors to Cathedral City’s Arts and Entertainment District. Other anchors include the Mary Pickford Theatre, the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater currently under construction, and announced Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Casino.
A little over three years ago, CVRep announced their plans to move from their smaller playhouse at The Atrium in Rancho Mirage and to the former IMAX Theater just down the highway in Cathedral City. It took nearly two more years for plans to be designed, finances to be raised, and a mutual agreement with the City of Cathedral City to be finalized. A formal key exchange ceremony took place between the City and CVRep in March 2018, and within two months, CVRep broke ground on the complete interior remodel. An enthusiastic audience cheered in March 2019 when the playhouse opened for its first performance with the musical, “Chess.” Since then, CVRep has continued a variety of shows that have had records sales and attendance even during the typical slow, summer months.
In this “New Business in Town” segment, you will get a preview of CVRep’s upcoming plays, a look inside the theater including going below stage to the newly constructed dressing rooms and prop storage. You will also learn about their ongoing campaigns to raise funds for additional upgrades to the building and understand that investing in this playhouse is an investment in our community.
