The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Coachella Valley starting on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 10:00 am through Monday, September 7, 2020 at 8:00 pm. Temperatures are expected to range from 105 degrees to 118 degrees. Excessive heat for those working or exercising outdoors can cause heat related illnesses, such as heat stroke.
Residents should take precautions during their time outdoors by wearing light weight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. The heat wave can cause health related illnesses among those most susceptible.
Anyone seeking a cool place to stay overnight, can now go to the Elks Lodge located at 67491 E. Palm Canyon Drive in Cathedral City between 4:00 pm and 7:00 am every day. Check-in ends around 4:00 pm. The first 35 people will be welcomed. Bags will be checked-in, each person must shower and be screened for COVID-19. Additionally, each person will be offered a bed, a meal along with cold water, and the ability to pick an outfit from donated clothing.
