Since November 2, 2020, the Cathedral City Police and Fire Departments have been training five new staff members that make up the new Short-term Vacation Rental (STVR) Compliance Officer Program. This new group, under the direction of the Cathedral City Police Department, consists of four compliance officers and one administrative position to assist with records and communicating with other city departments.
CCTV Host Conrad Angel Corral interviews Police Chief George Crum about this new team of STVR Compliance Officers regarding what their duties will be, when will they be out in the field, their enforcement powers, how you can identify the officers, do they wear body cameras, and how does a person file a complaint related to an STVR?
On Friday, November 13, 2020, these newly trained compliance officers were activated in the field and over the first weekend they responded to 12 calls for service via the STVR Hotline (760-553-1031) and GoRequest app. Although none of the calls for service resulted in a citation as no violations were occurring when they arrived, the officers did issue 23 municipal parking citations and had two automobiles towed for violating municipal codes.
