SafeWise.com, an organization that contextualizes national crime and safety trends, informed Police Chief George Crum and City Manager Charlie McClendon recently that Cathedral City was among the top 50 safest cities in California. In fact, Cathedral City ranked #39 among the 229 cities in California reviewed by SafeWise. Additionally, of the cities reviewed in the Coachella Valley, Cathedral City was considered the safest. If a city or town is not listed, it was due to being too small for their analysis. You can review the data at https://www.safewise.com/blog/safest-cities-california.
Over the past five years, Cathedral City has continued to experience a 50% decrease in Part 1 crimes, which are reported to the Department of Justice monthly. According to Chief Crum, the city’s decrease in crime is attributed to several factors that include a responsive and proactive police department, having a trusting relationship with the community, and having a good working relationship with allied agencies throughout the Coachella Valley.
