Starting on Saturday, July 10 through Saturday, July 31, 2021, the Coachella Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District will conduct truck mounted ultra low volume spraying treatments for the invasive Aedes mosquitos every Saturday morning from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m in parts of Cathedral City. Additionally, the District plans to spray on Saturday, August 14th and Saturday, August 28th. The spraying is necessary to avoid the mosquitos from spreading a variety of diseases including the West Nile virus.
The spraying of mosquitos will occur in the area of Cathedral City that is south of Ramon Road, west of Date Palm Drive, north of Dinah Shore Drive, and east of the Whitewater Wash. The sprays are registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and breakdown in the environment within a few hours after application.
Residents are encouraged to do the following:
- Stay indoors and keep windows closed during and at least 30 minutes after spraying.
- Use mosquito repellent and wear long sleeves when outdoors.
- Maintain your window and door screens and get rid of any standing water on your property where mosquitos can lay eggs.
