City Council of Cathedral City Approves Ocotillo Park and Soccer Park Renovations

The City Council of Cathedral City approved the purchase and installation of new soft surfacing around the play equipment at Ocotillo Park and the purchase of new fitness equipment for the Soccer Park Fitness Track and Ocotillo Park. With labor and materials, the total project cost is $220,802.69.

Built in 2016, Ocotillo Park, is in the Ocotillo Square Neighborhood, located at 33300 Moreno Rd, Cathedral City, CA 92234. In 2007, Cathedral City partnered with Desert Health Care District for the construction of a walking fitness track along the perimeter of the Dennis Keat Soccer Park located at 30th Avenue and Santoro Road.

“Improving the quality of Cathedral City’s outside spaces remains a top priority for the City Council and our staff,” said Deanna Pressgrove, Environmental Conservation & Public Works Manager. “These timely renovations and replacements at Ocotillo Park and the Soccer Park will ensure that our residents and visitors can continue to enjoy these amenities for years to come.”

The project includes the following renovations/replacements at Ocotillo Park:

  • Purchase and installation of 2 units of outdoor fitness equipment
  • Replace tot lot soft surfacing (portion of the new surfacing is made from recycled tires)
  • This project will include the removal of the existing soft surfacing and the installation of new surfacing around the tot lot play equipment with the same colors and design as existing.

The project includes the following renovations/replacements at the Soccer Park Fitness Path:

  • Two-Person Accessible Chest Press (Quantity: 2)
  • Two-Person Accessible Lat Pull (Quantity: 2)
  • Four-Person Leg Press (Quantity: 2)
  • Set of 3 Plyometric Steps (Quantity: 1)
  • Repaint and perform minor repairs.
  • The project will include the cleanup of the surfacing around the fitness equipment and removal of overgrown turf along the walking path.

Due to material delivery timelines for the fitness equipment and replacement of the soft surfacing, the renovation projects for both parks are expected to take place in Spring 2023.

A total of 9 community parks are located within Cathedral City’s boundaries and there’s another on the horizon. City parks improve our physical and psychological health, strengthen communities, and make our neighborhoods more attractive places to live, work and play.
