City Council of Cathedral City Renames City Streets in Honor of Three Local High School Students
Mayor Stan Henry and the City Councilmembers awarded proclamations to three high school students and named three streets after each for one year in recognition of their academic excellence. The Annual Student Street Naming Ceremonies honored Mr. Chai Arnold of Cathedral City High School, Ms. Priscilla M. Lara of Mount San Jacinto High School, and Mr. Bryan Hernandez of Stepping Stones Learning Center.
Each student received praise from the City Council, leadership of their respective schools and their peers at today’s unveilings. KESQ was also there to interview each student giving the students the complete “rock star” treatment.
A Salutatorian at Cathedral City High School and a soccer team captain, Mr. Arnold has achieved academic excellence including being a member of the California Scholastic Federation, a recipient of a Gates Millennium Scholarship, a recipient of a Dell Scholarship, and a recipient of a full scholarship to Stanford University this fall to study neuroscience in hopes of becoming a medical doctor.
Entering her high school years, Ms. Lara had to overcome adverse obstacles at home while pursuing her academics. Thanks to a caring aunt who placed Ms. Lara under her guardianship as well as supportive teachers and her own initiative, she has gone from a student with class credit deficiencies to a model student thriving to graduation from Mount San Jacinto High School. Ms. Lara plans to work part-time and begin studying at the College of the Desert.
Traditional schooling was not the academic route for Mr. Hernandez as he would often get frustrated with the daily tasks of traditional school methods. Through Stepping Stones, Mr. Hernandez was able to apply his intellect with an individualized learning program that allowed him to succeed, graduate with a great g.p.a., and secure an internship with e-Academics where he is learning to install, network and troubleshoot computer systems.
