The City Council of Cathedral City unanimously approved the Maya La Feria Internacional De Cultura at the regular meeting on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. The two-day festival is scheduled for Oct. 21 – Oct. 22, 2023, and will be utilizing the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater, Festival Lawn, Civic Center Plaza, and Avenida Lalo Guerrero.
This comes after the City Council approved special use permits for the Coachella Valley Bully Fest (Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024), and the 2023 Battle in the Desert, an amateur boxing event on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023. Both events will be held in the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater.
Coachella Valley's Battle in the Desert – Oct. 14, 2023
Produced by Jesus Gonzalez, an officer with the Cathedral City Police Department, the “Coachella Valley Battle in the Desert” is an annual amateur boxing tournament geared towards those who work in the public safety professions. The boxing event is returning to the Community Amphitheater in Downtown Cathedral City for a second straight year on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The event is sanctioned by USA Boxing, and it encourages law enforcement officers and public safety personnel to compete in the sport of boxing. Some of the proceeds generated go to local charities.
Maya La Feria Internacional De Cultura – Oct. 21-22, 2023
Maya La Feria International De Cultura projects a strong local and regional audience and would represent another local event dedicated to celebrating the culture and history of Latino countries/heritage. The event, which is a proposed partnership between the Cathedral City Chamber of Commerce and Camara de Comercio Guatemala USA, features folklorico performances, live entertainment and cultural cuisine/presentations representing Mexico, Central & South America. Event organizers also plan to include a car show, vendor artisan market, and carnival rides/games on the Festival Lawn.
Coachella Valley Bully Fest – Jan. 13, 2024
Coachella Valley Bully Fest is an all-day attraction scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This annual event allows dog owners to display the talents of their pups and show off their unique skills. In previous years, Bully Fest has attracted both a strong local and regional audience as well as out-of-state attendees and participants. Competition trophies are awarded, and everything is designed to offer guests a family-friendly experience. After spending the last few years in Coachella, the City of Cathedral City is excited to host this year's Bully Fest in the Community Amphitheater in Downtown Cathedral City.
The Cathedral City Community Amphitheater is located 68526 Avenida Lalo Guerrero, at the corner of Cathedral Canyon Drive and Avenida Lalo Guerrero within the civic center complex and adjacent to the Downtown Parking Structure. The total size of the lots is 2.51 acres.
