Public invited to attend the dedication ceremony for “X Marks the Place”

Mayor Stan Henry and the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission invite the public to attend a dedication ceremony for the installation of the renowned artist Simi Dabah’s giant sculpture, “X Marks the Place,” on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Cathedral City Library located at 33520 Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City.

Artist Dabah is a self-taught artist/welder and has been creating welded steel sculptures from industrial scrap for more than forty years. His artwork utilizes scrap materials in order to recycle resources and create a new purpose that is environmentally friendly and visually pleasing. Most of his outdoor pieces including the “X Marks the Place” are left in their natural state rusting to a warm patina.

The sculpture measures 18 feet high by 22 feet wide and symbolizes that the library is the place where all things educational, culture, and artistic are featured.

Several dignitaries are scheduled to attend the dedication including members of the City Council, Public Arts Commission, Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, and Deborah Applebaum who coordinates the Digital Arts Tech Academy at Cathedral City High School. A reception will follow the dedication inside the library.
