In today’s Desert Sun, there is an article detailing that a percentage of park funds established by Proposition 84, approved by statewide voters in 2006, failed to build new parks in urban areas. It lists many cities up and down the state that received park grants, but failed to build any parks. One of the exceptions the article points out is Cathedral City. Through the strength of its City Council, City staff, and its residents, the community came together and built the new Ocotillo Park located at 33300 Moreno Road.
Since its opening in December 2015, Ocotillo Park has been one of most utilized parks in the city as it features a skateboard area, soccer field, baseball field, children’s play area, outdoor wellness and exercise equipment, splash play, picnic shelters, and walking paths.
Best of all, the park was built within the allotted time and on budget!
