City Council of Cathedral City Asks Its Residents to Become a Charter City
Last night, the City Council voted unanimously to place a measure on the November 8th Ballot to ask voters on whether or not to change from a General Law City to a Charter City.
The Council created a Sub-Committee to work on a draft charter, has had many discussions on charter language, and authorized a city wide survey of registered voters to determine the community’s interest in moving from a General Law City to a Charter City.
An webpage has been created to provide information about the Charter including the final Charter language and frequently asked questions about a Charter. It will be up to the voters to either support or reject the proposed Charter. A simple majority is required for the measure to pass.
