Cinema Diverse (The Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival) Is Expanding to Cathedral City’s Desert Cinema
Cathedral City’s Desert Cinema will become the valley’s second theatre to screen films as part of Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival, marking another record year of growth for the niche film festival.
“We are thrilled to be working with Cathedral City, and in cooperation with D’Place Entertainment to make this possible,” said Michael C. Green, Managing Director of Cinema Diverse, and its parent nonprofit, The Palm Springs Cultural Center. “For the past two years, we’ve used all three of the theatres at the Camelot. We were looking to grow, and given the commitment that Cathedral City has made to the LGBTQ community, this seemed a logical step.”
“Expanding Cinema Diverse to include Cathedral City is an exciting milestone for the film festival and our city,” stated Cathedral City Mayor Stan Henry. “This brings another exceptional entertainment choice for our residents as part of the growing list of annual events in Cathedral City. The LGBT community makes up a significant portion of our population, and Cinema Diverse creates a Fall counterbalance to our popular LGBT Days celebration in the spring.”
Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival celebrates its ninth year this year, opening on Thursday, September 22nd and running through Sunday, September 25th. The festival is one of three niche film festivals operated by The Palm Springs Cultural Center, which was founded in 2007 by local philanthropists Ric and Rozene Supple.
“Cinema Diverse and the Certified Farmers’ Market were our first two programs, said Rozene Supple, Founder and CoChair of The Palm Springs Cultural Center. “That first year, we had Cinema Diverse in July and opened the Farmers’ Market in the Fall. We decided to reevaluate the timing and duration of Cinema Diverse and move it to the third week of September in year two. Since then, it has proven to be a real winner for us, along with the Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival and the American Documentary Film Festival and Film Fund.”

Camelot Theatres – located at 3200 Baristo Road in Palm Springs.
Desert Cinema (D’Place Entertainment) – located in Downtown Cathedral City across from City Hall at 68510 E Palm Canyon Dr.
