Cathedral City Employees Donate the Most to the United Way among Valley Cities
Today at the United Way’s 2016 Annual Recognition & Kickoff Luncheon, Mayor Stan Henry and Councilmember Shelley Kaplan accepted on behalf of Cathedral City employees the Silver Cup – City Competition trophy. The trophy honored our employees for reaching further in their pockets to donate to the community more than any other city employee group in the Coachella Valley. This was the first time in nine years that another city has won beating out the city employees of Rancho Mirage.
Money raised goes to buy meals for hungry children, case managers to help families gain financial stability, mental health counseling, school supplies, and assistance to women and children escaping from domestic violence. Local programs include the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City, FIND Food Bank, and Family Services of the Desert, just to name a few.
As noted in June, Cathedral City employees showed their generosity and community spirit by making contributions and pledges totaling $17,178. This was a 52% increase in donations than the previous year. The additional funds will go a long way in achieving United Way’s mission of breaking the cycle of poverty in the Coachella Valley.
