New City Councilmembers Sworn Into Office
At last night’s special city council meeting, Mayor Stan Henry, accompanied by his wife Julie, took the oath of office to remain Cathedral City’s mayor for his second two-year term. He ran unopposed in November’s general election.
Re-elected for the 7th time by the voters of Cathedral City and receiving the highest vote totals, Councilmember Greg Pettis took the oath of office last night and was later unanimously appointed by his council peers to remain in the position of Mayor Pro Tem for two more years.
Elected for the first time by the voters of Cathedral City with resounding support, formerly appointed Councilmember John Aguilar took the oath of office last night, accompanied by his partner Bruce. Councilmember Aguilar joined the council by appointment more than two years ago due to a vacancy on the council that lasted for several months. He was again appointed as a councilmember two years ago when Councilmember Stan Henry was elected mayor and his council seat became open.
Mayor Stan Henry will serve as mayor for a two-year term ending in December 2018. Mayor Pro Tem Pettis and Councilmember Aguilar will serve in their council positions until December 2020. Starting in December 2018, the position of mayor shall become an appointed, rotating position. The City Council at the first meeting in December each year, shall appoint a Council Member to serve as Mayor for a one-year period on a rotating basis.
