Four Fantastic Events Happening in Cathedral City This Weekend
1 – Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic – Thursday thru Sunday
There is something for everyone happening in Cathedral City this weekend! If you like sports, then head over to Big League Dreams Sports Park and watch 35 NCAA Division 1 softball teams battle it out for the title of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Major college teams come from all over the country for this prestigious softball tournament. It runs from Thursday, February 23rd to Sunday, February 26th. 2 – Stardust Performing Arts Expo – Saturday
The Cathedral City High School is hosting a special music/arts event entitled, “STARDUST Performing Arts Expo” on Saturday, February 25, 2017 between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, at the Cathedral City High School, 69274 Dinah Shore Drive, Cathedral City.
Stardust is a celebration of the performing arts in the Palm Springs Unified School District. All performing arts groups will perform including bands, choirs, orchestras, dance teams, drum lines, winter guards, theater groups, student-led bands, jazz bands. This event showcases all the hard work the students put into the programs. There will be 3 stages: a drumline/guard stage, a theater stage, and a jazz tent; all will have mock “adjudication panels” of collegiate music educators providing constructive feedback (if requested) to groups for upcoming spring festivals. There will also be a “Fun Zone” with games and prizes for the whole family!
At 4:00 p.m. there will be a special concert of professional musicians to introduce the CALIFORNIA JAZZ FOUNDATION (CJF) to the Coachella Valley. CJF is a non-profit organization that assists jazz musicians in need. The concert, sponsored by the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission, will feature some wonderful standards from the Great American Songbook, led by the acclaimed Yve Evans.
3 – Movies in the Park – Saturday
Gather the family, blankets and/or chairs for “Movies in the Park” located at Ocotillo Park, 33300 Moreno Road in Cathedral City. The free movie event, sponsored by the City of Cathedral City and hosted by the Cathedral City Evening Rotary, features Disney Pixar’s film, “The Incredibles” starting at 7:00 pm.
You are welcome to bring snacks or non-alcoholic drinks, but you can also purchase them from the movie organizers at the park’s concession stand. Great Family FUN!
4 – Big, Bad, Dishy Hollywood Awards Night – Sunday
Come for all the Glam, twice the Dish, and half the Price! Celebrate Hollywood’s biggest, baddest, snarkiest awards night hosted by killer comedians Shann Carr, Max Mitchell and Jersey Shore at the Mary Pickford Theater. The event raises money for The LGBT Community Center of the Desert and the Desert AIDS Project.
Enjoy a live-hosted, interactive evening of hot Hollywood dish and drama and watch your favorite stars win and lose on a gigantic movie screen! Not a stuffy, hushed awards party! A wild and gossipy gala! This awards night promises to be packed with interactive fun, glamour, gossip, laughs, contests, prizes, food and drinks.
