Cathedral City Fire Department has been approved by the California Office of Traffic Safety to receive a grant to purchase a complement of rescue tools to be housed at Fire Station 413 (27-610 Landau Blvd), near Interstate 10.
Cathedral City Fire Department (CCFD) is responsible for primary rescue response to all traffic collisions that occur within its 23 square miles. In addition CCFD responds to the City of Palm Springs as well as unincorporated areas of Riverside County for mutual aid assistance. CCFD protects several significant traffic related infrastructures that transect the city at different points. These infrastructures include the Union Pacific Railroad, US Interstate 10, and California State Highway 111.
In early 2016 Cathedral City applied for a grant specifically targeting traffic safety and emergency medical response through the “REGIONAL COLLISION RESPONSE AND EXTRICATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.” In this grant application, it was identified that CCFD’s fleet of hydraulic rescue tools were aging and were requiring more service. As a result of the grant approval, CCFD will be taking delivery of a brand new state-of-the-art rescue tool complement for Station 413 in early 2017. This equipment funding will be made possible by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Fire Station 413 houses the primary response unit for Interstate 10 within the city’s boundaries. This added equipment will decrease the average extrication time for traffic collisions within the city.
