Cathedral City Firefighters Honored as “Firefighters of the Year”

As we celebrate National Fire Prevention Week this October 7-13, 2018, we can also celebrate six Cathedral City firefighters who were honored for being heroes to a three-year old and his family.  During the 22nd Annual Peace Officer & Public Safety Luncheon last week in Palm Desert, Battalion Chief Robert Allison, Captains Craig Sanborn and Josh Hess, Engineers Terry Martin and Jeremy Keenan, as well as Firefighter Mason Hinz were named “Firefighters of the Year” for their efforts that saved a little boy.

On March 28, 2018, a 9-1-1 call came from a home in Cathedral City reporting of a child drowning.  A three-year old boy was riding his tricycle in the backyard around a swimming pool while adults were in the kitchen.  The little boy tumbled into the swimming pool.  A family member pulled the little boy from the pool.  A Cathedral City Police Officer arrived shortly thereafter and the family member began CPR.  There was only a faint pulse and the little boy was not breathing.

Thereafter, these six firefighters showed up to the scene and immediately began resuscitation efforts and transported the child to the hospital.  Their efforts paid off as the three-year old has made a complete recovery and without any neurological issues.

We are grateful to have these well-trained professionals as part of the men and women who serve the residents of Cathedral City.
