Cathedral City Police Department held its annual “Shop with a Cop” event this past Saturday at Target.
The program identifies children from local schools and places them with a police officer or member of the police department to select items of their liking.
Twenty-five children took part in this year’s event. The children purchased items ranging from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle items to bicycles and clothing. The items were purchased through the generosity of the Cathedral City Police Management Association, Cathedral City Police Officers Association, Palm Springs Volkswagen, McDonald’s, Cardenas Market, Target and Southwest Towing.
Newly appointed Police Chief George Crum stated, “It brought great joy to see the smiles on the children’s and their family’s faces. On my first official day as the Chief of Police, I am very proud of the men and women of the police department, about 35 of them, to volunteer their time to take part in this program. I look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come.”
Officer Nick Chapman, President of the Cathedral City Police Officers Association said, “It’s an honor and privilege for the men and woman of the Cathedral City Police Department to participate in the “Shop with a Cop” program. We are grateful for the program sponsors and for the joy it brought to the children.”
