Cathedral City Recognizes the 15th Anniversary of “AMVETS Express”

Mayor Mark Carnevale and Councilmembers Raymond Gregory and Ernesto Gutierrez presented a proclamation on behalf of the City Council to AMVETS Post 66 Founder and Commander, Mr. Tom Swann Hernandez, on Monday, October 7th recognizing its 15th Anniversary of providing free shuttle service to the Veterans Administration Hospital at Loma Linda for American veterans living in the Coachella Valley. Headquartered in Cathedral City, AMVETS Post 66 has worked in collaboration with the VA Hospital and AMVETS Service Foundation to secure a shuttle van and volunteers to drive our veterans needing medical services to the closest Veterans Administration hospital.

The ceremony reinforced this important service to our veterans and recognized the volunteers who have donated their time driving our former military service men and women to medical appointments. Over the past 15 years, the AMVETS Express has provided free shuttle service from City Hall of Cathedral City to Loma Linda five days a week, totaling 85,500 hours and more than 540,000 driven miles.

AMVETS needs additional volunteers to donate their time to continue this vital service for those who have served our country. If you would like to volunteer, please contact AMVETS Post 66 Commander, Mr. Tom Swann Hernandez at (760) 324-5670. Your service to our veterans would be appreciated.
