City Council of Cathedral City Renames Two City Streets in Honor of Our Local High School Seniors for Their Academic Excellence

This morning, Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis and Councilmember Shelley Kaplan represented the entire City Council as two new street signs were unveiled honoring two high school students from Cathedral City for their academic excellence.  The Annual Student Street Naming Ceremonies recognized Mr. Ivan Hernandez of Cathedral City High School and Mr. Justin Randolph of Mount San Jacinto High School by renaming the street adjacent to their respective schools after each student for one year.

Mr. Ivan Hernandez

A Salutatorian at Cathedral City High School and a soccer team captain, Mr. Hernandez received the sporting awards of Most Valuable Player and First-Teamer for the All Desert Valley League Boys’ Soccer Team.  Ivan has also achieved academic excellence including being President of the California Scholastic Federation and the honor of “Golden Lion” by the staff for embodying the pursuits of a well-rounded, educated young adult.  Ivan plans to study Chemistry at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this coming fall.

Mr. Justin Randolph

Mr. Randolph prides himself in being a leader on and off the sporting field.  He offers encouragement to other students who face their own family problems or financial hardships.  Justin works diligently to reach his goals in the classroom and in sports.  Outside of school, he helps to provide for his family financially.  Often praised by the high school staff, Justin has become a role model for other students and is an exemplary student as well as a teacher’s assistant at Mt. San Jacinto High School.

Congratulations to these very bright and gifted students!
