City Council Honors Antonio Baciu and Commissioner Gary Marshall for “Yoga at the Amphitheater”

The City Council recognized resident Antonio Baciu and Parks and Community Events Commissioner Gary Marshall for their collective work to bring “Yoga at the Amphitheater” this past spring.  The free classes offered to the public attracted an average of 100 participants each week until the very end of April when the snowbirds left the Valley as the temperatures started to rise.

The idea of having “Yoga at the Amphitheater” was spurred by resident Antonio Baciu who had been attending the weekly yoga classes on the vast lawns at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage.  He knew that Cathedral City was finalizing the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater space with its large, tiered lawn and proposed the idea of having a weekly yoga class to Commissioner Marshall.  The two worked together to submit the idea to full the commission, asked city council to approve funding, and then went to work spreading the news about the event.

Yoga instructor Patti Wexler was recruited to be the teacher as she has taught classes throughout the Coachella Valley. The first class attracted over 80 attendees and then quickly grew above 100 participants.  The class size remained high over the 9-week period and then went down quickly on the last week of April, this past Tuesday.

Baciu and Marshall are already planning for next season and will change the dates of the yoga classes to start in January and end in late March.  Be sure to check the calendar of events this fall on updates at www.DiscoverCathedralCity.com. The classes will be free to attend.
