City Council Honors Volunteers for Healing Field and Cathedral City’s 35th Anniversary Celebration
At last night’s city council meeting, volunteers from two events held in November were honored for their contributions. Pictured are most of the members of the Cathedral City 35th Anniversary Celebration and Hot Air Balloon Festival held November 18-20, 2016. This group of dedicated individuals met on a regular basis for nearly a year planning all the activities including the gala dinner and jazz concert, parade, entertainment, balloon activities, and design and décor.
Additionally, the Council honored more than 100 volunteers for their work on the Healing Field event held annually at Patriot Park. The event honors the fallen soldiers of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. These dedicated volunteers mend, stake rebar to the ground, and place more than 6,000 American flags that represent each of the fallen soldiers. The event also includes the reading of all the names, opening and closing ceremonies, and the removal of all the flags and rebar right after Veterans Day. Pictured are several individuals receiving their certificates of recognition at last night’s council meeting.
City events require the participation of the community and without these dedicated individuals we would not have these two wonderful annual events that are enjoyed by so many and honor those who have given so much to our country and past.
