The City of Cathedral City is seeking a Building and Safety Manager. The ideal candidate, under administrative supervision, directs, manages, supervises and coordinates the activities and operations of the Building Safety Division; coordinates activities of the division with those of other City departments and outside agencies; including inspection of building construction activities, and issuance of building permits; coordinates plan checking and inspection of residential, commercial, and industrial developments; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director of Planning/Building; performs related duties as required.
Training and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that provides the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way of qualifying would be:
- Bachelor’s degree with major course work in public administration, business administration, engineering, architecture, or related field;
- Five years of increasingly responsible experience in building inspection and permits including two years at a supervisory level;
- ICC Certification as a Building Plans Examiner or Building Inspector is required;
- ICC Certification as a Certified Building Official must be obtained within 12 months of hire;
- Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record is required;
- Bilingual skills are desirable; but not required.
