City of Cathedral City Recognizes “Transgender Pride Day”

On Sunday, the City Council of Cathedral City recognized “Transgender Pride Day” in commemoration of the June 28, 1969 Stonewall Inn riots that sparked the LGBT Civil Rights Liberation Movement.

Pictured is Councilmember Shelley Kaplan and LaQuinta Mayor Linda Evans presenting proclamations at the first Transgender Pride Picnic at Ruth Hardy Park in Palm Springs. Other dignitaries present included Cathedral City Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis, Palm Springs Councilmember Chris Mills, Indio Councilmember Glen Miller, and Rancho Mirage Councilmembers Ted Weil and Charles Townsend.

On Friday, Councilmember John Aguilar joined hundreds at Francis Stevens Park to celebrate the Supreme Court decision granting the right of marriage equality nationwide.
