College of the Desert, City of Cathedral City Celebrate the Groundbreaking of Roadrunner Motors Facility

College of the Desert and the City of Cathedral City celebrated the groundbreaking of the much-awaited Roadrunner Motors facility at 67-905 E. Palm Canyon Drive in Cathedral City on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. Several community members also gathered to witness this milestone moment in the history of the College and the community.

“We are very excited to start construction on Roadrunner Motors,” said Laura Hope, Interim Superintendent/President. “And we are grateful for the overwhelming support this community has demonstrated for this project since the beginning. Everyone seems to understand the opportunities this program can bring to students, the regional labor force, and the community.”

“Building an educated workforce and growing hometown talent are foundational to our city’s future success,” said Mayor Mark Carnevale. “We’re one step closer to that dream becoming a reality. College of the Desert’s Roadrunner Motors in Cathedral City is set to provide the training and skills needed for community members to access well-paying local jobs.”

The Roadrunner Motors facility will be comprised of a nearly 26,000 square foot training center, which can accommodate 100 students at a time in a cohort style. Lift bays, instructional labs and classrooms, and more will enable the Roadrunner Automotive program to create more forerunners in the next generation of automotive technicians and professionals.

A principal strength of College of the Desert’s Automotive Program is its alignment of curriculum with industry standards and emerging trends. With the use of the new Roadrunner Motors, students will also benefit from proximity to Cathedral City’s automotive hub, where the area’s largest concentration of automotive dealerships, repair shops, body shops and more resides.

At this time, Roadrunner Motors is on schedule to open its doors in Summer 2026. To learn more about Roadrunner Motors, please visit https://codbond.wpengine.com.
