Community Service and Water Conversion Rebates for Cathedral City Residents

The Cathedral City Evening Rotary and the Cathedral City Public Works Department teamed together over the weekend to assist a local elderly couple with their lawn non-compliance. More than 20 individuals, including Cathedral City manager, Charlie McClendon, volunteered to rip-out dead shrubs, rake leaves, cut grass and pull weeds.

Cathedral City Public Works provided City and Rotary volunteers with trash bags, bottled water, gloves and debris pick-up.

This elderly couple, as well as any Cathedral City homeowner, can now take advantage of Cathedral City’s WaterSmart Landscapes Grant Program to receive up to $500 for converting their current lush (green) landscaping to a more drought tolerant landscape.

Additionally, residential properties which are served by Desert Water Agency can also apply for its Turf Buy Back Program and be eligible for a $2.00 per square foot rebate up to $3,000.00. Cathedral City residential properties served by Coachella Valley Water District can receive $1.00 per square foot rebate up to 1,000 square feet for those who want to reduce their outdoor water usage by converting their lawn to desert-friendly landscaping, installing smart irrigation controllers and replacing inefficient spray nozzles.
