CATHEDRAL CITY, CA [May 16, 2019] Hardy and Harper, Inc. asphalt crews will be installing new sidewalks on the west side of Date Palm Drive from Vista Chino to Gerald Ford Drive over the next three weeks starting on Monday, May 20, 2019. Consequently, one of three south bound lanes of Date Palm Drive will be closed to traffic from Vista Chino Road south to Gerald Ford Drive. This will impact the far right lane of the south bound traffic; however, most right turns from Date Palm Drive will be open to streets and local businesses.
This $600,000 sidewalk gap closure project will place sidewalks in barren portions along Date Palm Drive to connect older sidewalks with new sidewalks to provide an uninterrupted path of travel for pedestrians from Vista Chino Drive to Gerald Ford Drive. This will be especially important for students walking to area middle and high schools. Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) will provide 75% of the funding while the City of Cathedral City’s Capital Improvement Project Funds will afford 25% of the costs.
Since we are entering the off-peak time of the year, motorists should expect only minor impacts or delays. The north bound lanes of Date Palm Drive will not be affected.
