Councilmember Rita Lamb & CCPD Commander Nate Hanley Highlight Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

Cathedral City Council Member Rita Lamb highlights the annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024. The ceremony will be held at Desert Memorial Park 31-705 Da Vall Drive in Cathedral City at 10:00 AM. The event is being sponsored by AMVETS Post 66 and Jon Castro Chapter of Veterans For Peace. All our nations war dead and veterans are being honored.

The event is free and open to the public.

Council Member Lamb has served as a City Councilmember in District 1 since 2019. She received the “Friend of the Veteran Award” a few years ago. She has been a sponsor of veteran’s events for several years.

A special achievement award is being presented to Cathedral City Police Commander Nate Hanley. Hanley was an Arny sergeant who served on over 200 combat missions during the Iraq War. Fortunately, he returned home safely. As Police Commander he has led the city with great pride and dedication. Cathedral City has the lowest violent crime rate of any city in the Coachella Valley. Commander Hanley’s award is being presented by Bob McKechnie of the Cathedral City Peace Initiative.

Rancho Mirage City Council Member Ted Weill, a Navy veteran, is preparing a letter that will be read to the audience. Other elected officials have been invited as well. The staff of Rep. Raul Ruiz and State Senator Steve Padilla are presenting a Certificate of Recognition to World War II veteran Dorothee Irwin who will turn 102 years old later this month.

Also being honored is Marine Corps veteran Bill Kibler who is receiving the Silver Helmet Award as the AMVETS Member of the Year. Bill served in Beirut Lebanon and is founder of the not-for-profit  web presence known as www.GayVeterans.us.

Lee Wilson of the Fallen Heroes Project is introducing the Gold Star Family members. Each family member will be asked to speak and receive a rose. The Knights of Columbus are providing the benediction and taps will be played by Bryon Wirth.
