Riverside County has begun contact tracing to determine where people are exposing themselves to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The initial data is pointing to places like bars, but also large family gatherings where family members from outside of their immediate households are intermixing for family BBQs, picnics, going to the beaches and parks, funerals, weddings, etc. It appears that family members are letting their guard down by not wearing a facial covering, not washing hands, disinfecting touched items, and not social distancing with family members outside of their immediate households. Asymptomatic family members carrying the coronavirus are unknowingly spreading the virus to other family members.
The coronavirus can take up to 14 days before symptoms begin to occur. Those who are infected report having symptoms such as dry cough, fever, fatigue, difficulty breathing and other symptoms. A small percentage of COVID-19 patients develop pneumonia, which can be fatal.
This 4th of July Weekend – your family may be planning a social gathering, if you cannot cancel or postpone it, please following these simple rules around family members not in your immediate household to slow the spread:
- Everyone over the age of 2 years should wear a facial covering at ALL times
- Social distance by at least 6 feet from family members outside of your immediate household
- Wash or sanitize your hands often, especially before eating and drinking and after touching your mask
- Avoid touching your face (rubbing eyes, nose, or mouth)
- Disinfect common touched items like smartphones or potluck utensils
