The City Council voted unanimously last night to accept an $18,421.50 public safety grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in order for the fire department to purchase a new state-of-the-art hydraulic gurney for transporting patients. The Stryker gurney provides a multitude of functions to better serve patients and can lift up to 700 pounds.
Fire Engineer Alex Pike applied for the grant on behalf of the fire department and it was one of 67 grants awarded by the Foundation across the nation. More than 800 grant submissions were received by the Foundation. Of the grants awarded, Firehouse Subs distributed more than $1.2 million in public safety grants. This is the second Firehouse Subs Public Safety Grant to be awarded to the Cathedral City Fire Department. Several years ago, the Foundation donated $20,245 to acquire a battery operated “jaws of life” apparatus utilized with automobile wrecks.
Fire Engineer Pike recognized local franchisee owner Shinder Singh for his efforts in helping the department secure the grant. The fire department will recognize Mr. Singh and Firehouse Subs with a certificate of recognition. Firehouse Subs is located at 5200 East Ramon Road in Palm Springs. 70% of all funds raised comes from customers donating their change while ordering meals.
