Cathedral City just gained a new grocery store as “Grocery Outlet – Bargain Market” held its grand opening today. Locally owned and operated by Kimberlie and Bob Jackson, the grocery store is located at the former ACE Hardware location, 30025 Date Palm Drive. Residents may remember that before the location was an ACE Hardware, it was a Fresh & Easy grocery store.
According to Grocery Dive, the independently owned Grocery Outlet specializes in offering name brand foods at prices 40%-70% less than traditional retailers as they purchase overstock items and foods that go through a packaging change from its manufacturers. Their stores are generally smaller than traditional grocery stores, in this case about 15,000 square feet. Best of all, they do not charge a membership fee, such as Costco.
The City Council of Cathedral City participated in the ribbon cutting celebration hosted by the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce. As part of the celebration, the store donated $1,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City and will give away $1,000 in free groceries (20 – $50 gift cards).
