The Cathedral City Parks & Community Events Commission presents the inaugural 2023 Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Contest from 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at Panorama Park Dog Park, 28905 Avenida Maravilla, Cathedral City, CA 92234. The event also marks the grand reopening of Panorama Park after fall overseeding.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 9:30 a.m. Category groups are small and large dogs. Small dogs are 40 pounds or less and large dogs are 41 pounds or over. Grocery Outlet Cathedral City will be providing drinks and baked goods/treats for the dogs.
Additionally, Humane Society of the Desert will be operating an adopt-a-dog pen on site throughout the event. Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in North Palm Springs, The Humane Society of the Desert is now one of Southern California’s largest no-kill animal sanctuaries.
Mayor Pro Tem Mark Carnevale, Councilmembers Nancy Ross and Ernesto Gutierrez, and City Manager Charlie McClendon will be judges at the event. Chris Parman, the City’s former Communications & Events Manager, will emcee the contest.
Judges will be scoring on originality, scariest costume, funniest costume, and cutest costume. Prizes will be awarded to 1st – 3rd place winners in each category (Small & Large Dogs). Decisions by the judges are final, but a runoff may have to determine a winner in the event of a tie.
All dogs must be on a leash and properly restrained. Dogs exhibiting aggressive behavior and/or dangerous propensity will be asked to leave the contest.
