Mayor Ernesto Gutierrez gathered on Thursday with other Coachella Valley communities in accepting Clean California Grants for local programs. Cathedral City will share a $1.15 million grant given to Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) that will be divided between the cities of Coachella and Cathedral City. CVAG will utilize the grant to improve connector areas between CVLink and the future Dream Homes Park.
The grant is part of Governor Gavin Newsom’s $1.1 billion statewide clean-up initiative that be utilized to remove trash, create jobs and engage communities to transform public space. It is estimated that the Clean California Grant Initiative will create 3,600 statewide jobs over the next few years and that all projects funded by the grants must be completed by June 30, 2024.
Grant funds for Cathedral City will cover design and constructions costs and provide for better access for cyclists and pedestrians to and from the CVLink and Dream Homes Park. The connectors will be landscaped and offer benches, wayfinding signs and trash receptacles. CVAG will also plant shade trees for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.
