On Monday, Mayor Raymond Gregory and Councilmembers Mark Carnevale and Rita Lamb joined Coachella Valley Rescue Mission (CVRM) to unveil a new mobile shower trailer facility for the homeless that will be utilized throughout the Coachella Valley and on Mondays at Calvary Christian Church, 68550 Dinah Shore Drive in Cathedral City. A Community Development Block Grant was secured to pay for the new mobile shower trailer.
“Each homeless individual has their own unique cause for being homeless,” stated Mayor Gregory. “It is important that beyond the hot shower, a fresh towel, and toiletries, our social, mental health and healthcare workers get an opportunity to converse with each individual and identify a path towards self-sufficiency. For some, this might mean escaping domestic violence and for others it’s a lack of a formal education, a history of mental health emergencies, substance abuse, or loss of a job. This program is about lending a hand to lift up a life.”
Additionally, thanks to a new partnership between CVRM and Calvary Christian Church, a myriad of medical, mental health, and social workers will be onsite every Monday from 8 am to 4 pm to provide services to get each individual homeless person on a plan and viable path to overcome any barrier to self-sufficiency.
