Political Signs Must Adhere to Municipal Code
As the General Election draws near on November 8th, the landscape around the City often becomes a battleground for political messages.
Political campaign signs must adhere to Cathedral City Municipal Code Section 9.62.060, Temporary Sign Provisions which requires the following:
DISPLAY PERIOD
• Signs may be erected 60 Days prior to the election
• Signs must be removed 10 Days following the election
LOCATION
• Signs may be placed on private property with owner or tenant consent
HEIGHT
• No freestanding sign may exceed five feet in height
AREA
• Vacant Residential and Commercial
No sign may exceed 16 square feet
No parcel/lot may exceed a cumulative 80 square feet
• Improved Commercial Lots
No sign may exceed 32 square feet
LIGHTING
• Signs may not be illuminated
No sign shall be placed, attached or erected on public property, or in the street right-of-way, including but not limited to, utility poles, sign poles, trees, fences, walls, and public buildings.
No sign shall be placed so as to pose a visibility hazard to pedestrian or motor vehicle traffic, and no sign shall be located within a sign triangle.
Please note that any sign not in compliance with the regulations above will be removed by the City. Nothing herein shall prohibit the removal of any sign that is determined by the Community Development Director, or their designees, to be an immediate danger to persons or property.
