Earlier this afternoon, Governor Newsom ordered additional business sectors to close once again due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Riverside County and throughout the state. Last Thursday, Riverside County reported a record single day increase of 1,377 coronavirus cases, only to set a new record on Friday with 1,431 cases. There have been 25,748 confirmed cases in Riverside County with 9,711 of those recovered and 550 reported deaths.
Last Wednesday, Cathedral City tied a previous single day number of coronavirus cases at 42 since tracking last March. On Thursday, Cathedral City reached a new record of 56 coronavirus cases in a single day followed by Friday’s all-time record of 71 cases in a single day. Although today’s numbers, which include this past weekend, dropped down to 43 cases, Cathedral City reported its highest single one-day record of deaths with a total of three fatalities.
Each of us must do our part to prevent acquiring the COVID-19 virus so we can once again allow for a reopening of our business sectors. Please learn and follow these steps:
- Wear a face mask or covering when in public and intermixing with those outside of your immediate household
- Social distance at least 6 feet from those outside of your immediate household
- Wash your hands often throughout the day especially before eating and drinking
- Avoid touching your face unless you clean or sanitize your hands first
- Disinfect items touched often like surfaces and smartphones
- Stay home unless going out for essential functions
