Residents and Dignitaries Celebrate the Completion of Eagle Canyon Dam with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
County Supervisor John Benoit, Mayor Stan Henry and the City Council of Cathedral City, and Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District today held the official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of Eagle Canyon Dam among the cheers of local residents.
The $10.6 million dam and the accompanying $6 million, 3,900 feet long Line 43/43A underground storm drain that links the dam to the North Cathedral Canyon Channel will help protect businesses from future flash floods. As recent as January, the dam held back nearly 5 acre-feet of storm water from flowing out to East Palm Canyon Drive and has the capacity to hold back up to 185 acre-feet of flood waters.
Another wonderful benefit to property owners that were formerly downstream is that flood maps will soon be redrawn showing a much lower risk of flooding. This should result in lower insurance rates, thereby saving property owners money.
After the ribbon cutting, guests were able to take a tour of the dam and enjoy the scenery from the top.
