The City Council honored Stunt Woman and Cathedral City resident Janeshia Adams-Ginyard at Wednesday’s council meeting for her incredible work in the film and television industry. Janeshia is an Emmy-nominated American actress and stunt woman, professional wrestler, sports radio personality and motivational speaker.
She has been a stunt performer on several television shows including “The Mindy Project”, “K.C. Undercover”, “True Blood” and “American Horror Story”. In 2018, she was a stunt performer for the movie, “Black Panther,” for which the stunt ensemble including Janeshia won “Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture” at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2019.
On July 13, 2021, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in the new category of Outstanding Stunt Performance for her work on the HBO series, “Lovecraft Country”. She became the first African American woman to achieve this honor.
The City Council has been eager to recognize Janeshia since her nomination last year, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, last night was the first opportunity to do so in person.
